Leading cruise ferry operator, DFDS Seaways inflated a giant six-metre diameter red nose on the bow of one of its cruise ferries on Tuesday 10th March as it launched its quest to raise money for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.

Believed to be the biggest red nose in the world EVER, the red nose was positioned on the bow of DFDS Seaways’ 162-metre-long m.s. KING OF SCANDINAVIA cruise ferry at the International Ferry Terminal just outside <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Newcastle.

John Crummie, UK Managing Director for DFDS Seaways, comments: “Comic Relief is an incredibly worthwhile charity, and their work in the UK and Africa is inspirational.

In this current economic climate, it is more important than ever to remember that there are those less fortunate than ourselves.

“And we thought what better way to launch our charitable effort for Red Nose Day than by showcasing a giant red nose on one of our cruise ferries.

“We really felt that Red Nose Day was something that our guests would support and would be keen to donate to, plus of course it is great fun! Our donations are being collected not only this week but across the year, as we will donate money for every booking we have on our Comedy mini cruises to Amsterdam.”

Five pounds from every one of DFDS Seaways’ comedy cruise booking throughout the year will go towards Comic Relief. In addition, on 12th and 13th March there will be a collection of money from customers within the terminal and on board the two DFDS Seaways’ cruise ferries sailing between Newcastle and Amsterdam, including in the main foyers and bars, to help in DFDS Seaways’ conquest to raise thousands of pounds for Comic Relief.

Continuing with the Red Nose Day theme, selected staff onboard the decorated cruise ferries will be wearing red noses, there will be special themed ‘red nose’ cocktails available during sailings with donations from each sale, a raffle with all money going to Red Nose Day, as well as a ‘dress down Friday’ and events for all DFDS Seaways staff based in the offices at North Shields and Harwich.

I seen this on red nose day and I thought it was a great gesture from the ferry operator DFDS Seaways, good on them all on their efforts.
