22-year-old R&B and soul singer Laura Izibor is about to enter the R&B music scene in a big way. People are comparing her sound to the likes of musical sensations such as Roberta Flack Alicia Keys, and Stevie Wonder. A relatively new artist on the mainstream music scene, Izibor's full length album entitled "Let The Truth Be Told" (June 2009) is getting some newfound attention on the music scene this year.
Izibor's music can be described as R&B soul in the vein of Alicia Keys. There is a wisdom and maturity in her sound, which she says has been influenced by Stevie Wonder, Candi Staton and Roberta Flack. Her songs have been featured on "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice," and can be heard in the upcoming movie "When in Rome."
Izibor began her music career at the age of 13 when she sang in front of her drama class. She then played Judas in the school musical production of "Jesus Christ Superstar." From there, she sang Whitney Houston's "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" in a talent show, and eventually entered a national singing contest in Dublin at the age of 15. After winning the national singing contest, Izibor put her prize money towards recording equipment, a microphone, and a piano. At the age of 16, Izibor signed with American record label Atlantic Records.
Izibor has had her music featured on popular primetime TV shows such as Grey's Anatomy and its spinoff show Private Practice. She will also have a new song, "Shine," featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming movie When In Rome starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel.
