Some Disturbing News for Law & Order Fans Out There: There is Talk Than NBC is Canceling the Long Running Show

In what would be shocking after 20 seasons on air, there are some reports circulating online that NBC may be canceling Law & Order and not renewing the contract for the 21st season.

The report on Deadline.com was the first to report the news stating that NBC will end the show at 20 seasons and not allow it to continue for a record-breaking 21st season. The show would have been the longest running TV drama ever, not the longest series, but has sustained low ratings over the past while.

The spin-off shows are safe however, and the new spin-off Law & Order: Los Angeles will launch next season so maybe network executives decided to pull the plug on the mother ship so to speak.

E! Online has also confirmed the news, saying that the cast and crew were informed of the network's decision earlier today.

According to EW.com however, NBC has not publicly announced the decision and one source told them:

“It’s a fluid situation,” says a source close to the talks. “It’s not a done deal. It’s possible this is just a negotiations tactic.”

So we'll have to wait and see for sure, but the outlook does not seem positive at this time.

Oh and what is the longest running scripted series on TV? The Simpsons.
