LeBron James, King of The "Dunkadelic-Era"
LeBron "King" James the superstar 6'8, 255 pound specimen is arguably the best player in the NBA not named Kobe Bryant. He is also the #1 Most Influential player to the basketball and hip-hop culture fusion born in 1984 that is known now as The "Dunkadelic-Era" In America.
Allen Iverson of the Denver Nuggets held the title of the Most Influential player for over a decade. When Iverson entered the NBA in 1996 as the #1 overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers he came into the league with the swagger of a rap-star and the crossover of a playground legend. The combination of his game and hip-hop persona made "The Answer" a hip-hop icon. He signed a sneaker deal with Reebok and the rest is b-ball and hip-hop history.
LeBron now holds the title and will carry it for the next decade. LeBron is good friends with rap-superstar Jay-Z and is rumored to be joining him in Brooklyn when he becomes a free-agent in 2010. LeBron was the most hyped prep-player in 2003 since the days of Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) back in 1966.
When Michael Jordan retired for the 3rd and last time after the 2002-03 season all eyes were on the kid from Akron, Ohio who would become the 1st pick of the 2003 NBA Draft. He signed with Nike for 90 million and the King James-era would begin. LeBron scored 25 points in his first NBA game. He like Jordan and Iverson would be named Rookie of the Year.
LeBron, Carmelo, and Dwyane Wade are part of the 2003 Draft class that is mentioned in the same breath as the 1984 and 1996 Draft classes. Jordan, Olajuwon, Barkley, and John Stockton were part of 1984 and Iverson, Kobe, Ray Allen, S. Nash, and S. Marbury were the big names in 1996.
Last season during the first round of the NBA playoffs Jay-Z made a remix of a song by west coast rapper Too Short named "Blow the Whistle". The song was a "Diss" to Washington Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson who called LeBron over-rated. James and the Cavaliers dominated the Wizards and thus put LeBron in the title seat as the Most Influential player to The "Dunkadelic-Era". The "Dunkadelic-Era" will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary during the year 2009 (1984-2009). LeBron turns 25 on December 30th. He also just to let you know scored 25 in his first game.
