Leo & Kate Help Last Titanic Survivor Millvina Dean
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The last survivor of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 is getting a hand from Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
The "Titanic" stars, along with director James Cameron, have contributed to a $30,000 fund for Millvina Dean, 98, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

The Irish Independent was the first to report the news.
The stars came forward after an appeal by photographer Don Mullan in the Sunday edition of the paper. Mullan had asked the stars and director of 1997 blockbuster to help Millvina, who has struggled with her nursing home bills.
Though I prefer not to do fluff stories, and I generally see Celebrity Philanthropy as Self-Promotion, this appears to be a case of true altruism and repayment of, what I uncharacteristically of me, refer to as a karmic debt.

And.The film was a blockbuster which set up the actors producers and directors up for life. The very least they could do is make sure she ends her life with dignity and comfort.Sorry to be cynical, but why mention it to anyone ? For publicity perhaps,or just to let us know there are some good guys out there.

Thank you for fleshing out what I meant by "Karmic Debt" I forgot that it has been 10 years since the film was released (seems like yesterday) and their is a whole generation that does not know all the details. In this world of selfishness, I like to catch people doing the right things for the right reasons. So they may be an example to others.

I like this story - it's nice.
This picture however is not of her, it's of a teenage Madonna.

Yes it was true. In fact, Don Mullan, an iris photographer and activist, started the MIllivina Fund which where Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio and James Cameron have donated. Millvina Dean was the last living survivor of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. She was nine (9) weeks old when the Titanic sank and in her twilight years she has run into dire financial straits. Fortunately, Hollywood heavyweights have come to her aid when her nursing home fees have gotten a bit out of hand and mere pay day loans wouldn’t cover them. DThanks to these gallant philanthropists for their aiding Millvina Dean and her debt relief.
