British singer Leona Lewis has been punched in the face during the signing of her latest book Dreams at a bookstore in Piccadilly, London, today. Lewis signed a book contract in January of this year. The deal involved Lewis writing an autobiography that was supposed to be released in October 2009.

During the signing of the book today, Lewis was attacked by one of her fans and punched in the head. The unpleasant incident caused a security scare during which the attacker was wrestled to the floor. The assailant was a twenty-nine-year-old man who stood in the line of people waiting to get a signed copy of Lewis's book. Eyewitnesses say the man approached Lewis and punched her. Lewis ran out with her hand covering her eye. Lewis did not need medical treatment, but was unable to complete the signings.

Immediately, a statement about the incident was issued on Lewis's Facebook page.

Leona was the victim of an unprovoked attack this afternoon at her book signing. The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona is understandably shaken and apologises to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings.

The statement already got over 300 comments with statements of support and well wishes for the singer.
