Lighting of the Washington Monument in Baltimore

Holiday cheer, fantastic fireworks and a bit of political discord highlighted the 38th annual lighting of the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon. Almost perfect weather brought out a large crowd to enjoy the festivities. The question on many minds was if mayor Sheila Dixon, recently found guilty of one count of embezzlement; would still show up for the event. Indeed, the Mayor did take the stage for for the traditional lighting of the monument and received almost equal amounts of boos and cheers from the audience.
