Lil Wayne Sets New Record with 18 BET Hip Hop Award Nominations

He's on top of the world right now, with superior album sales for his latest record Tha Carter IV and now Lil Wayne has another reason to get excited.

The "Mrs. Officer" rapper just learned that he scored a whopping 18 BET Hip Hop Awards nominations , setting a new record.

That massive number is equal to Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa's nods (9 each) combined and puts him head and shoulders above the competition.

Weezy will compete in categories like Best Live Performer, MVP of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, Track of the Year, Best Club Banger, Best Featured Verse, and Hustler of the Year.

As for Kanye, he's up for Video Director of the Year and Producer of the Year while Nicki Minaj is the only representative of the female rap spectrum with nods for Lyricist of the Year and MVP of the Year.

Wayne and his fellow nominees will learn their fate when the 2011 BET Awards take place on Oct. 1 and air Oct. 11 at 8PM on BET. Actor and comedian Mike Epps will be hosting from the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
