Lisa Niemi and Patrick Swayze: A Perfect Marriage
Although Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he continued to work on a small screen drama series and a memoir, which he was writing with his wife, Lisa Niemi. Niemi stood by him throughout his two-year fight with the disease.
"But he recently told Lisa, 'I refuse to die in a hospital room. I'll go on my own terms - in our home and in my own bed.'
Lisa Niemi supported Swayze's wish to not die in the hospital and he died at 57 in their Los Angeles home.
Lisa Niemi and Swayze met when Niemi was 16 and one of Swayze's mother's dancing students. The couple had no children, though Lisa miscarried twice, about.com reports. PatrickShe's Like the Wind which was inspired by his wife performed and co-wrote the song , which featured in the Dirty Dancing sequel: Havana Nights, which made the famous line - `Nobody puts Baby in a corner` - possible.
Despite the stress of Swayze`s high profile career, Patrick and Lisa Swayze seem to have had an idyllic marriage. Swayze said he liked being married:
"I like being married. I'm sort of like a loyal sheepdog, sometimes to a fault."
And Lisa Niemi never felt drowned out by Swayze`s celebrity:
"I give him a lot of credit for not making me feel overshadowed or left out."
