<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />(HOUSTON, TX) — One in three adults in Houston cannot read this sentence! Over one million adults in Houston function at the lowest level of English literacy, meaning they are unable to read simple road signs, follow the directions on a medicine bottle, or read to their children. Literacy Advance of Houston is celebrating their 45th Anniversary this year. They are hosting an open house free to the community on Wednesday, June 24 from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm to celebrate their 45 years of community service and provide information about volunteering, donating, or getting involved.
As Houston’s oldest and largest volunteer-supported literacy organization, Literacy Advance of Houston provides a variety of free programs to help adults with low English literacy skills. In the past year, more than 259 Literacy Advance Volunteer Tutors donated their time to help adults in the greater Houston area improve their literacy skills. Please join them at the community open house to learn more about getting involved! If you can read this, help someone who can’t. ______________________________________________________________
