Both sides had one change each, with David Miller replacing the injured Faf du Plessis for South Africa and Imran Farhat included instead of Nasir Jamshed for Pakistan.

“It’s a good deck, and we’ve been playing well batting first, so that’s what we’re looking to do,” said de Villiers at the toss. De Villiers, who hit 128 off 108 balls in South Africa’s 34-run win in the third ODI at the Wanderers, is the leading run-scorer in the series, and he said he would like to “keep the consistency going”.

Misbah-ul-Haq, the Pakistan captain, said that the pitch looked a little more rough than the one at Wanderers and expressed the hope that it would help his side’s spinners.

“The morale in the side is good, but being away from family for two and a half months, there will be some homesickness,” admitted Misbah.

Morne Morkel, who hasn’t played international cricket since straining his hamstring in South Africa’s four-wicket win in the second Test against Pakistan in February, wasn’t part of the playing XI once again, though de Villiers promised that “Morne will be back soon”.
South Africa lead the five-match series 2-1.
