For India, the New Year started on a poor note, with an ODI series loss against Pakistan but against Englandthey have bounced back in style, after losing the Test series, and have an unassailable 3-1 lead in this series.
India come here riding high on confidence, especially the manner in which they have won the last three matches after losing the first match in Rajkot.
With the maximum temperature hovering at around 5 degrees, it could perhaps be the harshest conditions acricket match will be played in at the 4000 feet, the highest altitude cricket stadium in the world. It will be also be the maiden ODI at the HPCA Stadium that has played host to IPL matches in the last two editions.
Both the teams were unwilling to play in extreme cold conditions, but once they arrived here the warmth of the sleepy hill town and the beauty of the snowcapped Dhauladhar mountain ranges that overlooks the stadium smote them.
Both the teams decided to skip their practice sessions Friday and went for sighthseeing, but on Saturday they got down to serious business.
Indian want to make sure that a 4-1 win will keep the confidence of the team high while England are looking to salvage some pride after winning a Test series on Indian soil after 28 years.
An ODI series win will also act as a balm on the team that suffered the ignominy of failing to win a singlematch during the tour of England in 2011.
For England, their bid to win an ODI series in India in 28 years remains unfinished but still it was a good series for the young and the inexperienced England team, that won the Test series and drew the Twenty20s.
England's biggest positive has been the emergence of Joe Root. The impressive Root has now been included for the series in New Zealand and skipper Alastair Cook has only words of praise for the youngster.
It is unlikely England would make any changes for the inconsequential ODI.
Cook also has been in good form as he displayed in Mohali along with former skipper Kevin Pietersen. A lot will depend on these two senior players if England have to win tomorrow's match.
With Rohit Sharma performing superbly as a make-shift opener in the fourth ODI in Mohali, it looks India's opening woes finally have a solution. In the middle-order ,Suresh Raina has also been in good touch and wants to bat higher up the order if he gets a chance.
"Definitely, I would like to bat higher up the order, If I am given a chance, I would like to give my 100 per cent as it will also give me an opportunity to play more overs. I have enjoyed batting at No 5,6 or 7 where you need to bat till the finish,” Raina said.
India, however, could test its bench strength as hinted by Raina. “You will see a new batting attack on Sunday,” he said.
The Chennai Super Kings player, who had the experience of featuring in two IPL ties here, feels the toss will be crucial. “Toss will be crucial in this game and it will be a good contest between bat and ball.”
