Kulasekara claimed 3/30 from his 10 overs and Malinga bagged two from his 10 overs for 33 runs, as Sri Lanka kept the Australian batsmen under pressure once again.
Warner slammed 60 off 73 balls studded with six hits to the fence, and Starc remained unbeaten on 52 for the under-pressure Aussies, who were shot out for 74 in the previous game.
Left-handed Starc's knock of 52 came from just 37 balls, studded with seven hits to the fence.
Australian batsmen failed to drop anchor and build partnerships, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals against the inspired Lankans at the SCG.
The home side’s middle-order flopped once again with Michael Clarke, David Hussey and George Bailey failing to contribute.
Skipper Clarke fell to Kulasekara for 20 off as many balls, which included two boundaries.
Hussey found it difficult to score against the Lankans and managed only one run off nine balls he faced during his stay at the crease.
Warner’s stay at the crease proved crucial for the Australians as he added 46 runs for the second wicket with Clarke after the early loss in form of Phil Hughes (1), and also added 40 crucial runs with Bailey for the fourth wicket.
Matthew Wade and Mitchell Starc’s resistance towards the end helped Australia inch closer to the 200-run mark, as the wicketkeeper-batsman scored a cautious 31 off 53 balls, while the lanky pacer Starc contributed 52 runs.
Brief Scores: Australia 222 for 9 in 50 overs (David Warner 60, Mitchell Starc 52*; Nuwan Kulasekara 3 for 30, Lasith Malinga 2 for 33) vs Sri Lanka.
