Danny Boyle's London 2012 Olympic Mixtape

The Telegraph has posted Danny Boyle's London 2012 mixtape, complete with videos.

There are some good calls here, as well as some real WTF choices. Also included are songs that Boyle couldn't avoid: you can't put on an opening ceremony in London without using "Jerusalem", "London Calling", and "Chariots of Fire", for example.

One glaring omission: Joy Division. Really, Danny? You couldn't fit in "Ceremony"? Also, "Song 2" is without a doubt the most boring Blur single ever. To choose that clunker over "Parklife" is forehead-smackingly dumb. Also, the less said about Sugababes, the better.

As for Oasis, sure, go with "Wonderwall", but also something from Definitely Maybe, and not from the band's somewhat-average later offerings.

London 2012 officials won't confirm that the mixtape posted by The Telegraph is the "official" one, but it's looking very likely. Actually, it's best to leave this in Danny Boyle's hands, rather than entrust the musical selection to a gaggle of bureaucrats that thinks Keith Moon is still alive.

There's nothing truly controversial on the list: we don't buy into the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen" as real controversy: back in the day, when Malcolm McLaren was trying to recreate NYC's punk scene in London, sure, but not in 2012.

Our favorites: Bowie's "Absolute Beginners" and the Monty Python theme.
