While the show 'Survivorman' has lots of viewers, all sitting around enjoying seeing a man survive on nothing but what's in his pockets, a viewer got a first hand experience last week.

Christopher Traverse is a big fan of the show Survivorman, where survivalist Les Stroud spends days in harsh environments, far from civilization. Stroud has survived deserts, jungles and the arctic tundra.

Traverse lost his way and ran out of gas on his snowmobile, surviving for 5 days in the northern Manitoba wilderness. He says he learned how to keep warm and hydrated from the show.
Christopher Traverse laughs at the irony of how his wilderness survival skills were learned by sitting inside a house, watching television.
Mr. Traverse, 24, was reunited with his family Wednesday after a five-day odyssey lost in the freezing wilderness of northern Manitoba, far from his uncle's home on Lake St. Martin First Nation where he's been visiting for the past few weeks.
Mr. Traverse said he credits his survival to knowledge gleaned from an unlikely source.
"I watch a show called Survivorman," he said.
