Louise Bourgeois retrospective in Guggenheim, New York  The Guggenheim Museum in New York is currently hosting a major Louise Bourgeois retrospective till 2 September 08. Ms Bourgeois is one of the best-known living women artists today. An abstract sculptor The 96 years old French-born American artist moved to New York from France in 1938 but not until the 80’s when she was in her 70’S she started to gather the art world’s attention. In 1993 she represented the U.S. at the Venice Biennale and in 1999 she was the first artist commissioned to fill the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern. She first worked in different materials such as stone, metal and latex.    Some of her public sculptures are well-loved all over the word. “Maman” her iconic spider sculpture, which stands at the entrance to many art museums. From the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, State Hermitage Museum. Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Mori art museum Tokyo, Samsung museum of modern art, Soul to the Denver Art Museum Denver Colorado She also created a fountain sculpture with three pairs of large black granite benches resembling human eyes in Downtown Pittsburgh. There even a group called “Maman” on Flickr by devoted fans of the Spider sculpture to post photos of its offspring at the different locations.
