It is an exciting day for English-speaking art lovers around the world, as the Louvre is now accessible with the click of a mouse. The American Friends of the Louvre announced that the Louvre will launch an English version of its online art database, the Atlas,  on Thursday, July 29. The Louvre online database, which catalogs thousands of pieces from the Louvre's collections, will be available on the Louvre's website at louvre.fr.

The American Friends of the Louvre provided the Louvre with a $380,000 grant to create the English version of the database to make the Louvre's collection more accessible to English speakers.

About 22,000 of the Paris-based museum's 35,000 works are shown in high-resolution images, with text that describes their provenance and location in the museum.

New items are constantly being added. The French version of Atlas has 26,000 items in its catalogue.
