Luchetti:"Movie distribution on the web would be a great benefit"
Answering a question of a member of public of Repubblica TV the italian director nominated for Golden Palm 2010, Daniele Luchetti, has explained his solution for saving cinema industry from distribution problems and piracy on the web.
The member of public asked Luchetti with a tcxt message if distribution of movies online could be a solution for distribution problems of small movies, as happened for the independent movie "Torno Subito" by Simone Damiani, distributed esclusively on the web.
"An official and legal distribution of movies on the web, maybe at the same time of theaters, would be a great benefit".
Luchetti has got a brilliant idea for financing cinema industry: "A part of subscription to internet provider should be used to finance cinema and music".
Italian director Daniele Luchetti doesn't want taxation for internet providers, but he would like them to be directly involved into productions:":"I would like internet providers to join the production companies, distributing in exclusive the movies produced".
Daniele Luchetti underlined the florid moment of Italian cinema:"Italian audience never watched so much italian movies than today. The problem is that they don't' pay for them" watching them illegally on the internet.
Internet providers could also contribute for surviving of theaters in city centers:"A part of money of providers has got to come back to cinema industry and maybe it could make a fund useful for helping the small theaters in cities historical centres to stay open. Historical city centers are alwais been dedicated to cultural activities. Theaters in city centers should be protected and helped as for craftsman's shops.
Rome-born Daniele Luchetti, 49, a former assistant to Nanni Moretti, was nominated for a Golden Palm in 1991 for Il Portaborse (The Bag Carrier), starring Moretti as a corrupt politician. His other films include La Scuola (The School, 1995), Dillo Con Parole Mie (Ginger and Cinnamon, 2003) and Mio Fratello E' Figlio Unico (My Brother Is An Only Child, 2007).
Luchetti's latest movie, the neo-realist "Our Life" sees Elio Germano, recently awarded as best actor in Cannes, playing Claudio, whose adored wife has just died in childbirth, and who determines to make it big in the construction world - legally or illegally - so his surviving kids will never want for anything.
