Mad Men Barbies: Mad Men Season 4 Premiere Kicks Off With Rave Reviews
AMC's Mad Men is becoming a marketing juggernaut. The 4th season of Mad men kicked off Sunday to gushing reviews, a packed Times Square in New York and a Mad Men barbie doll collectioin.
First, a quick review round up of the season premiere of Mad Men.
Heather Havrilesky of Salon.com raved: 'Genius is the only word that does Matthew Weiner's work justice.'
'A return to form if the first episode of season four is any indication,' writes Alessandra Stanley in the New York Times.
The Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan gushed: 'I'm stupendously glad that Mad Men is back.'
The show follows the lives of a set of characters at a New York ad agency in the early to mid 1960s. Mad Men has received near universal critical acclaim and a bunch of Emmy Awards
“The show has such a beautifully art-directed look. The color of the room or the cigarette case, all of it is thoughtful,” he said.
Once the folks at Mattel learned that “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner was a fan of Barbie, the collection, a year in development, was born.
The collection features suave ad men Don Draper and Roger Sterling, complete with cufflinks. The Draper doll features a "painted 5 o'clock shadow [that] adds to his good looks, as does his dreamy gaze."
Thousands of Man Men fans, many dressed like their favorite characters from the TV series, packed New York's Times Square to watch the the premiere of season 4, a full hour before viewers at home on the East Coast.
Cast members from the show also turned out for the 9 p.m. premiere, which aired a full hour before everyone else on the East Coast watching at home.
“It’s a dream come true to be here in the middle of Manhattan for the premiere,” Elizabeth Moss, the actress who plays Peggy, told the Daily News. “I live in New York. I love this city and I’m proud of it.”
