The Magically Polar Express Train!
The elves at the North Pole are getting ready for the magical Polar Express train! They are making their lists and checking it twice and they want to make sure that you have your tickets for this years event before they are sold out!!
For those of you who have not yet gone on the Polar Express train it is one of the most special things you can do with your kids. You have probably all read the book and watched the movie. The Polar Express train is even more amazing!
Did you know that Tom Hanks and the producers of the Polar Express movie came to our train to get ideas for their film?! The volunteers at the Polar Express do such a great job that your kids will think they are going to the North Pole. One year when I was helping out as an elf I saw one of my younger brothers classmates say to his Mom "Mommy, Mommy I've never been so far from home!!". He happens to live on the other side of the mountain from where the North Pole and Santa's workshop is located.
Some Polar Express Tips
There are two performances each day. One leaves at 5PM and one at 7:30PM. The entire performance lasts around two and a half hours so if you have little ones you may want to go on the earlier performance.
For the performance EVERYONE (Parents included!!) wears some type of pajamas. I suggest you wear long underwear, under armour, or some type of warm clothing under your pajamas along with winter boots and a jacket.
One of the reasons you want to get to the train early is parking is limited and it may take you a few minutes to get your spot. One of our suggestions is to go park at a local restaurant and either have dinner before or after the performance. The Muddy Moose, Flatbreads, Horse Feathers, and Delaneys are some great restaurants close by to the train station.
You'll go through the historic train station (Which used to have 40 trains a day come from Boston) to the Polar Express train behind it. You will be greeted by the elf conductors and chefs as you get onto the train. As the train starts out of town and into the forest be on the lookout for wolves (Not real ones)! After about a twenty minute train ride you will arrive at the North Pole!! A sea of elves will be waiting for for outside of the train with lighted lanterns to take you up the hill to Santa's workshop. Each elf has his/her own name, age and history so feel free to encourage your kids to ask the elves questions (You can also take them aside and ask them to mention a past Christmas gift, and that they made it for them! Or anything to tie Christmas in and make it more real for them).
I'm not going to tell you what happens next as it is very special and should be a surprise. Afterwords, the elves escort you back down the hill to the train. On the ride home the Elf Chefs will serve you hot chocolate, cookies or chocolates, and give you the special Polar Express Bells as you sing Christmas carols on the way home.
