Maker Faire SF 2008 - setting up___

The DIY extravaganza known as Maker Faire has hit the Bay Area, and is taking this weekend at the San Mateo County Expo Center. Come on down and check out everything from crafts to momemade robots*, and meet the folks who just can't stop themselves from taking stuff apart.

From robot mouse demos to knitting seminars, this looks like a fascinating weekend. I cna't make it, so it's up to you...

Maker Faire Schedule

Also in attendance will be the Swap-O-Rama-Rama, where clothing swaps and alterations meet in a dark alley.

Update: Those punks at Wired Gadget Lab got to attend... Hrmph.

Maker Faire is put on my MAKE Magazine, with which I am not affiliated. It's total DIY Porn.

(* No word yet on any robots that make crafts, but you never know)

This photo was taken at the Lego town section of the Maker Faire. It's a very detailed Renaissance-inspired garden maze with little stories going on between the characters such as a poker game in progress and a skeleton found by a surprised gardener.

Visitors to the 2008 Maker Faire take turns bursting bubbles filled with a mixture of hydrogen, oxygen, and propane in an exhibit called They Hydrogen Economy, created by a group called False Profit Labs.

At our Maker Faire booth, we ran workshops for building 3-D models of cells. This photo is of some of the clay we used. Was a fantastic time, and we're sure to go back again. www.galaxygoo.org
