August 14 marks Victory over Japan Day, or "VJ Day", which is the day Japan announced its unconditional surrender in 1945 thus ending WWII, with the formal surrender occurring until September 2, 1945, but no one should forget the fallen members of the armed forces, many who are buried abroad like at the Manila American Cemetary and Memorial in the Philippines.

I visited the Ft. Bonifacio American Military cemetery during a visit with my Filipina wife and In-laws, in 1995.  I found it to be an awe inspiring , beautiful place.  So serene and peaceful for the remains of our valiant heros all.  It is a shame that they too could not enjoy what we take for granted.  It is a very solemn place and should be preserved with all the respect and dignity that they deserve.  I believe I might possibly have a relative buried there.  I saw the name of a Kenneth (?) Thomason of the (5th CA (?) ) on one of the walls. I would recommend a visit to this place of sadness and yet HONOR to anyone visiting the Philippines.  There is a small saying that goes something like this; "FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FOUGHT FOR IT, FREEDOM HAS A PRICE THE PROTECTED WILL NEVER KNOW."   Greater love hath no man, then to give his life for another.  Please  continue to take pride in the up keep of this Hallowed ground.
