Marcia Wallace, Edna Krabappel on "The Simpsons", dies of cancer
Marcia Wallace, dubber actress of Edna Krabappel at The Simpsons, has died from breast cancer that she had been fighting against almost 30 years. As a sign of respect for Wallace, Fox Television removed the teacher from the series.
Edna Krabappel, the fourth grade teacher at Fox television series, "The Simpsons" has said goodbye forever this Friday October 25th. Marcia Wallace, the American actress who gave voice has died at the age of 70 years a victim of breast cancer.
The news has spread like wildfire among team members cartoon series and television. Al Jean, producer of "The Simpsons" has been in charge of issuing a statement confirming the terrible news: "I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace. She was beloved by all at The Simpsons" . In the same statement, Jean has said that Edna Krabappel won't be dubbed by another actress and the character will disappear from the series with the death of Wallace. "She was loved by all and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character."
Although at the beginning of the series, Edna Krabappel was a supporting role in the series, gradually made her way between the main characters from "The Simpsons". So much so, that in 1992 Marcia Wallace received an Emmy for her work as bender. Wallace became very popular in the seventies with the American CBS television series "The Bob Newhart Show", where she played the receptionist Carol Kester (1972-1978).
In January 2007, Marcia Wallace awarded her the Gilda Radner Courage Award from the Roswell Park Institute for cancer, to help educate the American public about the importance of detecting the disease early, and to inspire during all these years to the people who have fought against the disease. In 2004, Wallace wrote an autobiographical book titled "Do not Look Back, We're Not Going That Way", which she told the story of how she discovered at an early her breast cancer, the death of her husband Dennis Hawley from cancer, his episodes of mental breakdown, her motherhood being single and other times in her life.
Although Marcia Wallace recently fell from her illness, and the entire team of "The Simpsons" knew about the poor health of the actress, as explained Al Jean, Edna Krabappel was not one of the characters who had planned to disappear. "Earlier we had discussed a potential storyline in which a character passed away. This was not Marcia’s Edna Krabappel. Marcia’s passing is unrelated and again, a terrible loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing her."
