NP Rank:
Is Marikas’ Talent Really Going to Fly?
Yes I think so. But who is Marika in the first place. Oh! Marika is one of my most talented artist friend from Boksburg. She comes from where Charlize Theron was born. Yes she is Afrikaans and I am very proud to be her best friend and colleague who shares similar if not common interest and hobbies. She loves oil painting and the magic in her fingers can best describe what she is. This comes through in her work.
The first time we met she wanted to know how I survive with art, and said I don’t because it is very hard and a difficult business. I have shown her pictures of my works and she was very impressed. But what she does not know is that she is more talented than me because at least she went to school to learn about oil painting.
Surprisingly for me this is a terrible hobby and I have not learnt it any where i.e. I have no formal education. And she asked me if I was interested in taking up art classes in oil painting and my reply was a simple No! Why she asked me, well I was afraid that if I took up these classes I will be brain washed to comply with conformity and operate within the rules of establishment. And that is a problem for me because I want to have no boundaries and laws that will confine me into limited spaces of my self-expression. That is my only reason and a good excuse to say “I can not afford it” without actually saying it to embarrass myself.
The good thing about art and personal approach to self-expression is that every person is unique and special in their own way. As you can see on the photo here these are my personal collection and very different from Marikas collection.
Therefore Marika’s works are more solid oil base works and the value and sentiments attached to art investments these days is relative to the oil medium. My stuff will not attract high price auctions because it is pastel and not oil. Now can you see then why I say Marikas’ talent is on the verge of going up due to the fact that art collectors are investing highly in oil based painting than any other medium?
I will not stop encouraging her to continue because she does not see what I see in her magic hands. She needs to hang in there for a while and let destiny do the trick. When the time is right everything will come together as planned by divine design. Marika you are the best I am very proud of you and Colla keep it up- love you guys.
Please don’t kill me for showing off these painting to the world. Few people know the essence and the being of what South Africa is about and this in just a tip in the ice-berg. Any comment on Marika and Collas’ pieces of art are well come.
