16 Zombies Were Injured in the Making of This Motion Picture

A sudden set shift injured 16 actors who were playing zombies in Resident Evil: Retribution. As the actors were moving between two platforms, one of the structures moved suddenly, sending the zombies plummeting two stories to the ground.

In real life, this would be a good thing. however, on a movie set, it means that real people got hurt.

When the paramedics showed up, they were presented with nearly 20 patients who had already been made up with Hollywood-caliber gore effects, and had to separate the fake injuries from the real ones. All but one of the zombies were able to shamble out of the hospital with minor injuries, except for one. Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich has been visiting the remaining zombie patient, who is keen to return to set:

On my way to see akiko at the hospital! I'm going to show her all your incredibly sweet and supportive messages! Thanks again for all your thoughts and wishes for everyone involved!

It's hard to keep a zombie down. The tried and true methods are:

  • Removing the dead
  • Destroying the brain

A set collapse will buy you some time, but that's about it.

Setting aside for the moment the unfortunate actors involved in this tragic mishap, on a odd level, there's something very oxymoronic about 'injured' zombies!

Hey, zombies were people, too.
