Mean, Green, and not Charlie Sheen

The buzz surrounding the The Incredible Hulk has not been good.  And that would be an understatement.  However, Ain't It Cool News has just posted an extremely favorable review (thanks for the link, Joey):

Louis Leterrier has made a HULK movie that first and foremost is badass, kickass and asskicking, but is most certainly not ASS.

Ain't It Cool News aren't exactly bastions of journalism. However, if there is one thing they do better than most (maybe all) is capture the feeling of the fan, not interested in the composition of the mise-en-scene, just in whether the experience lives up to our primal filmic desires: does it kick ass or does it not kick ass?

I want to believe. I'm not totally sold yet but, reading that gushing geek geyser of a review, my excitement level is rising. I so what the Hulk to kick ass. Please, kick some ass. I want to believe.

I don't understand why they decided to make another Hulk movie so soon - is it another remake or some kind of sequel?

I don't think the powers at be were happy with the Ang Lee Hulk movie.  This one is intended to be a series reset of sorts, plus it'll be far more integrated with the "cinematic Marvel universe" that they are trying to create, tying into Iron Man and other movies going forward.  The comparison made in the AICN review was to Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Ang Lee's Hulk) and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (The Incredible Hulk).

I understand - thanks for explaining. It seems kind of pointless to redo a movie so soon, but I guess I wouldn't say so if I were a diehard Hulk fan.

It was a shock to most that they are revisiting it so soon but I give them credit for having a vision and pushing onward to meet that vision.  They felt Ang Lee's Hulk didn't go where they wanted it to so they're reseting it.  Pretty bold idea, given how expensive these films are.  Down the line, if things go according to Hoyle, Marvel will have done something pretty spectacular with their different film properties.
