Media Democracy Day is here! Truth in Media anyone?
We TTMCers (ThinkTankMediaCoo-op members) were there last year and the turnout was amazing...
The booths/Tables were very well laid out. New media companies such as your very own Now Public are willing to share ideas and take feedback on the spot.. Adbusters was there as well as Submedia. Vancouver is the home of many groundbreaking new media concepts.. and most of them will likely be present this year at the MDD. Steve Anderson is publisher of COAnews and founder of MDD.
Panels and Workshops include:
*Big Media Clamp Down: Taking stock and fighting back
*Free Your Computer, Free Yourself - Practical steps to get you on the
road to liberation with free and open source software
*Journalism in a time of Big Media Domination
*The Battle for New Media and Open Communication
*Community Organizing and Media
* Open Source Journalism

thinktank, I like this story. It's good stuff.
Your title drew me. Media Democracy Day? Truth in Media? So I decided to see what kind of miracle was happening. I thought, "Does mainstream media actually get a day off from censorship and control?" Then I read your article and realized this is a Canadian event. I should have known it couldn't happen here.
Hope you enjoy the event!

I am confused! What about these participating media companies is not corporate? I looked up the definition of corporate and found one simple criteria....having formed a limited liability corporation. It seems to me that most of these media companies are limited liability corporations. So where is the truth you are proposing to promote?

hey East Van Ray,
Come down to the Free Event tomorrow and see what Truth we are talking about.. Van Public Library 12-6pm.
non-commercial media is our dream at the ThinkTankMediaCo-op... The media system is bought and sold today... Well last year at the MDD the only Commercial Media source present was the Tyee Paper. This year we'll have to show up and see whats going on.. Most of the participants are non-profit companies with good campaigns and good community media.
Thanks for the comment
see ya there!
Be the media.
show up and report for yourself.
