Coming from a musical family, Jamaican Chris Smith moved to Canada many years ago to attend school, after which he went into financial services before switching to music.
Smith, Head of Chris Smith Management, will be able to give the final two contestants pointers from an international perspective. Chris Smith Management has garnered a number of prestigious awards and critical press acclaim including 2002 Management Company of the Year (Canadian Music Week), and Artist Management Company of the Year 2001 and 2002 (Urban Music Awards).
Chris Smith Management has been profiled in a number of international music and lifestyle publications, including Billboard Magazine, Elm Street Magazine and Pollstar to name a few.
Having conquered the world, Smith is looking back at the development of Jamaican music and sees many avenues for growth. He believes music is Jamaica's biggest commercial product and fears that the Jamaican music industry is not giving the world a consistent dose of our music. Smith's goal is to build an infrastructure that will help Jamaicans be consistent
Smith maintains that his next goal is to establish an export system for the trade of local talent. An ultimate goal for Chris is to establish more Global Reggae Stars, giving reggae artistes a global platform to establish themselves as sustainable and legitimate forces to be reckoned with.
As Digicel Rising Stars boasts to be the Premiere talent show for unearthing Jamaican talent, the addition of Chris Smith only adds to the interantional appeal of the show and the comtestants.
Chris Smith will join the three Digicel Rising Stars judges on Sunday September 28 at 8PM at the Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston.
