Forensic Analyst Arlo West Claims Mel Gibson Rant Tapes Were Altered

The Mel Gibson rant saga continues as the audio tapes are handed over to the LA County Sheriff's Department. This time, the authenticity of the tapes, recorded by Gibson's ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, have been called into question. Arlo West of Creative Forensic Services says that the tapes have been tampered with as part of some sort of entrapment scheme.

However, West stops well short of calling the tapes fake, or saying that Mel Gibson is not the male speaker. West's contention that Grigorieva's calm demeanor during the calls is due to her knowing that the calls were being recorded falls under "obvious", since Gibson wouldn't have recorded himself and then sent her the CDs. The legitimacy of the tapes will certainly be an issue in this investigation, but nobody is truly equipped to analyze the audio files without seeing the masters. Anything else is literally just phoning it in.

“The audio files were most certainly edited intentionally and the forensic terminology for this, is tampering,” says Arlo. “The edits that I found would have been done post-recording and are clearly done to redact dialog — which means to intentionally remove words,” says Arlo.
Her audio experts sound persuasive. But so far, all they've managed to insinuate is that Oksana, who has charged Gibson with beating her and physically intimidating her, may have decided to get some help in recording some audio evidence of his abusive behavior.
