Metallic's Leaked 'Death Magnetic' in Stores Friday
Metallica's heavily-promoted ninth studio album Death Magnetic is set to hit stores on September 12, 2008. But, despite being leaked on the internet ten days in advance of its official release, the band couldn't be happier.
Metallica's Death Magnetic isn't officially in stores until Friday, but the eagerly awaited disc by the band notorious for suing file-sharing network Napster couldn't elude pirates.
The entire album started circulating illegally online last week after a French record store mistakenly began selling copies.
Metallica's response?
A collective shrug.
"By 2008 standards, that's a victory," says drummer Lars Ulrich. "If you'd told me six months ago that our record wouldn't leak until 10 days out, I would have signed up for that. We made a great record, and people seem to be getting off on it way more than anyone expected."
"My fight on a daily basis is getting my kids to finish their vegetables," Ulrich says.
Death Magnetic will be released on September 12, 2008, assuming you haven't downloaded it already.

What a turnaround for them, they used to be so brutal - didn't they sue some fans at one point?

Yeah, they did sue some fans and have been generally uncool about engaging fans in a non-monetary way. I think it all started when they cut their hair.
