NYC rapper Method Man, real name Clifford Smith, 38, released a statement regarding his arrest over tax-evasion charges for unpaid NY State income taxes between 2004-2007.  He called the whole incident "a miscommunication," and acknowledged that he "won't be treated fairly in the media".

Method Man is accused of failure to pay $32,799 in personal income taxes from 2004-2007.  NY State is also looking to collect an additional $52,503 in back taxes from 2002.

Method Man is due back in court on Dec. 9 and could face a punishment of up to 4 years if he is convicted of repeated failure to pay personal income and earnings tax.

"It’s a miscommunication that will be resolved in the near future," Smith, 38, said of his alleged financial woes. "I know I won’t be treated fairly in the media, but that is what it is."
