MGMT's Official 'Kids' Video Terrifies Kids, Stars Joanna Newsom
Well, kids, everyone's fave hipsterlectro-pop duo and Urban Outfitters soundtrackers, MGMT, have finally released the "official" video for their huge hit "Kids".
This being the first song the band ever wrote — "on a cold day in February way back in 2003", no less — Kids has one of those melodies that's impossibly catchy.
And, thereby, impossible to forget. And, therefore, impossible annoying.
Then again, they did recruit the strikingly obtuse poetic lyricist and don't-call-me-freak-folk harpist Joanna Newsom to star in the clip, so that's gotta be worth something.
And, of course, the video is perfectly and creepily constructed to terrify kids for a generation to come.
This mac 'n cheese pop music albatross is "some of kind of monster" indeed.
MGMT even manage to incorrectly attribute a green-lettered Nietzsche quote, set against a backdrop of melodic strings and walls of fire, to the satirist Mark Twain.
An intentional misquotation? And, if so, why? To further their agenda of space-age infant trauma-making through music?
Kids these days...honestly.
