The record would be for the number of people in one place dancing to Michael Jackson's Thriller. This would have been Michael's 51st birthday.

The current record is held by 242 dancers who performed in Virginia in April this year.

Anand Bhatt, 29, who organised the record-breaking attempt, said: "We wanted to celebrate his life and show people what an inspiration he is."

The officials at Guinness World Record have not yet confirmed that the event was a world record, which was planned before Michael died on June 25th.

Hundreds of fans also gathered in Trafalgar Square in London to dance to Thriller.
