The news of Michael Jackson's death reportedly caused Elizabeth Taylor to collapse in grief. Jackson and Taylor have long been good friends, apparently such good friends that when the Cleopatra actress heard the news of his passing she broke down both physically and emotionally.

“Liz was getting dressed when the second call came that Michael had died, and she collapsed,” an insider tells In Touch. The 77-year-old heartbroken star’s personal physician was summoned to her home.

Along with being great friends with Jackson, Taylor was also the one who dubbed him the King of Pop when she presented him with the Artist of the Decade award in 1989. She has stood by her friend through good times and bad, supporting him fervently throughout the trial for child-molestation charges in 1995.

“Liz is in a state of shock,” the insider continues. “She and Michael had their ups and downs, but she never stopped loving him. Now, she’s grief-stricken beyond words.” Yesterday evening, Elizabeth’s rep said her client was “too devastated by the passing of her dear friend Michael Jackson to issue a statement at this time.”

Elizabeth Taylor recently gave words to her grief in a statement.

"My heart…my mind…are broken," the Academy Award-winning actress, too distraught to comment last night, said in a statement released Friday by her rep.

"I loved Michael with all my soul and I can't imagine life without him. We had so much in common and we had such loving fun together. I was packing up my clothes to go to London for his opening when I heard the news. I still can't believe it. I don't want to believe it. It can't be so. He will live in my heart forever but it's not enough. My life feels so empty."

Taylor is one of many celebrities deeply affected by the death of Michael Jackson.

Poor Elizabeth...How many times can this beautifully resiliant woman's heart be broken. There was Mike Todd,Richard Burton,Michael Jackson,Montgomery Clift,Rock Hudson,James Dean.....Like Dame Elizabeth said though "He will live in my heart forever" the same rings true for all of us. R.I.P. "King of Pop" M.J.

She hated Michael - it's just attention seeking behaviour.

All the celebrities feel they have to pretend Michael was great and release statements to look good for their fans. They know what he was really like, but won't say in public.

Dolly, you're off your rocker. They were BEST FRIENDS. It makes me laugh when people "think" they know what they are talking about. Did you know them personally?

Yeah, you're right... no one loved him... not even his MILLIONS, perhaps a BILLION, fans worldwide or HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of albums sold.... yeah, you're so right that one of his best friends didn't love him either. Get a life, loser!

Your a loser,  You know nothing about Michael Jackson.

I grew up with him,  I watch him grow up to be a true humanitarian one of the greats of this world  No one has done more for the children of this planet  than Michael Jackson, just for that lovely act he should receive  millions of  Gold stars.    Liz Taylor and MJ had a pure loving friendship probably something you'll never understand...loser, go get a life!!!  and a brain?

Hi YoYooo: I believe Elizabeth won't survive this loss. can you imagine what she must be thinking, feeling? ANOTHER man she deeply loved has gone on before her! I hope not, but  don't be surprised if we hear that she has passed on in 6-12 months from now. But I hope not. They seemed to have something special...maybe even physical. It would not surprise me, and it would be perfectly natural for those two. Two very very special people. With special talents and gifts.

I am deeply disturbed about Michael's death. I wanted so badly for him to continue on. I think he wanted to as well. But I also believe he may have needed help but surrounded himself with too many of the wrong people at this late stage in his life.

My thoughts exactly!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!  Once he started passing the records of the white artists, they started messing with him.  The white assholes could not take it that a beautiful (inside and out) black man can leave their icons in the dust.  It's just history - white people suck!  They think they always have to be on top.  Well, MJ just left them in the dust, it was inevitable that they would do anything to destroy him!  Assholes!

Hello Dolly(forgive the pun):

If there is one thing that wealthy, famous, popular people DON'T have to do is endorse someone or something if they don't want to. There is absolutely no reason for any of these celebritites to say one single word of praise if they don't want to. They praised and are still praising Michael perhaps because they knew him. And they speak of who they knew. DID YOU KNOW MICHAEL, DOLLY? Have you ever spent time with him? Spoken to him? Have you even met him? If not, then perhaps, just maybe, what all these people are saying is based upon the truth...that he was a lovely guy.(apart from his GIFT of talent). It's only people like you. People who have never met him or really followed his career achievements and contributions, that want so badly to see him fail. But you must know this, Dolly: Michael has already made history. He has alrready done things that are still not surpassed by other artists. He has still be able to hang on to the LOVE of people around the world. I'm afraid to tell you, all your negative comments are meaningless. I will pray for you.

you kow I think it's really pathetic that even in his death people like Dolly can find room to be negative she did love them but maybe you don't have friends like that so you don't know what love is have you seen all the pics of all the times they shared together.  It don't matter what anyone thinks of him because only GOD can judge him and at the end of the day your opinion of him don't count... RIP MICHAEL

Anyone, including Liz Taylor, who looked at Michael through the eyes o f love would see him just that way, as Jesus does, through the eyes of love. God sees Michael as someone who Jesus went to the trouble of dying for "for God so loved the WORLD..."

"Man in the mirror" can be redemptive (i.e. Christian) or humanitarian outside of God's strength. I hope and pray that Michael saw the man in the mirror that Jesus wanted to see.

Miryam: I don't thinkMichael would have been honest or brave enough to write such a powerful lyric if he had something to feel guilty about.

dolly, your comment makes me feel sick and angers me to read that there are people out there like you that have absolutley no idea and lack  respect of the legend. Its people like you that had destroyed the man's soul, your the ones that really killed him inside with your constant exploitation, if you had only looked closer than the surface of all the controversy and bullshit that was ever so frequently talked about that were greatly misunderstood you would have found the light. How could u be so utterly igorant and disrespectful? Words cannot describe the grief of the loss of such a beautiful human being and your posting comments of false knowledge, trying to express your view of how you "know him so well"

Have mercy on your soul...

Everyone should stop commenting on Dolly Dumbo's post.  She is one of those clowns who gets attention by posting this crap all over the internet.  IGNORE THESE IDIOTS AND THEY WILL GO AWAY!

I totally agree with Becky Levings.

From michael's eyes and his interviews, I saw a pure heart and I trust him in bottom of my heart.

RIP, Michael (Lydia from Taiwan)

Elizabeth loved Michael. It must be truly devestating for her if not down right overwhelming.

I pray for them both, they are such similar souls.

It was only Elizabeth Taylor who stood by Michael during his trial. All his "so-called" friends and people who earned millions through him chose to hide and abandon him because of fear of public opinion turning against them.  Now they are out in full force trying to pay tribute to MJ and "share their moments" with him.  Again, they want to ride in MJ's revived popularity after his death.  Elizabeth Taylor is the only person who saw through the trappings and saw Michael for what he truly was -- a lonely and lost child who never had a chance to live a normal life.  Elizabeth, you are one of the classiest and most compassionate woman this world has ever seen.

We should only wish that we had a friend like Taylor. She was truly Michael's friend. We don't really know what kind of life away from the stage that Michael had, but whatever he had only God can judge him/ I personally believe someone was out for money with all the law suits.

Such a waste.

May you have the peace in death that you so deserved in life.

Unfortunately we know exactly what kind of life Micheal had away from the stage (long before Martin Bashir came along). Why do you and so many others pretend not to know? He was an evil man and his background doesn't excuse his actions.

0
Kiedro

You don't know squat.  You don't even know who to spell Michael much less do you know the person.  You and others like you are the evil ones out there.

marieCornel

Dear Barbara: As I mentioned to someone else, JEALOUSY is an evil. It you sound so sadly envious of the overwhelming, worldwide love that people are showing to this man. I suggest that you closely examine the contributions Michael has made. He has three children. His oldest daughter spoke through gut-wrenching pain over her love and loss of her "daddy" as she called him. There is something very beautiful about that. She didn't say "my father". She said, "daddy" a much more affectionate and loving title for a man YOU describe as 'evil'. People dancing in subway cars in NYC, releasing ballons in Russia,  and staging Michael impersonators in Japan.

I'm afraid, Barbara, Michael has touched the world in ways that YOU cannot understand due to your envy of him. I will pray for you.

Dear me !   People please all these unkind thoughts are so heartbreaking to me.  Can't you all see what how satan is trying to steal your hearts, kill your spirits, and destroy your lives.  Let's pull ourselves together and love each other to strengthen humanity against the forces of evil that's strongly and visibly perusing the world today.  Look at the world today, it's in turmoil, it's  restless, and full of hatred.  We've explored almost everything in the world, well let's try Jesus, he never fails.  Please let's unite and support each other always in love.   I love you all ! Be blessed !

Michael Jackson was found "not guilty" by a jury. This is the American way. This is a very inappropriate time for ANYONE to dog him. It is, however, an opportunity to love and respect him and relinquish our ignorant and prejudicial feelings toward him, for after all, he is in the hands of "THE JUDGE," whose verdict will never be known to us. I loved Michael Jackson, I grew up with him. You can't help but be mesmerized by his videos and music. Lots of musicians and singers have went on before us lately. GOD has one magnificent orchestra and choir. Let's all live our lives as though we intend to get up there to see it. THAT is what Michael would want.

Let's all follow a previous commentator's advice:  let us who love Michael Jackson unite in ignoring anyone who posts negative, jealous, hateful diatribes against the King of Pop.

Anyone who says anything negative about Michael Jackson at this sorrowful time should be shunned.

Just pretend these negative minded people do not exist.  They do not deserve anyone's attention or replies.

Do not waste your time or energy on them.

This is a time for fans of the great Micheal Jackson to be united in praising him and thanking him for the joy he brought to us.
