Earlier on Tuesday, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department officials confirmed to E! News that plans were indeed in the works for a Neverland memorial.

“Our role will primarily be traffic, but also crowd control,” department spokesperson Lt. Butch Arnoldi told E!. “We will also be making sure there is no trespassing on neighboring ranches and stuff like that. We would be stationed on the perimeter of the house. The actual roadway will be the responsibility of the CHP.”

The Associated Press has reported Wednesday afternoon that there will be no public memorial planned for Michael Jackson at Neverland Ranch. A source reportedly said nothing is planned for Neverland (at least through Friday) and it appears more likely a funeral and burial will take place in Los Angeles.

Previous reports had included a plan for a public viewing at Jackson's Neverland ranch and a 30-car motorcade from downtown Los Angeles to the ranch.

Where Jackson would be buried is also uncertain. The Sun newspaper reported that it is thought that he will be buried at Neverland, quoting a source: "Details are still being finalized. The family will make an announcement soon."

A motorcade of around 30 cars will escort the body to the King of Pop's 2,600-acre California estate on Thursday, a monument to his obsession with childhood that once had a private zoo and amusement park.

It is understood there will be a public viewing of the singer, possibly on Friday or Saturday, which is expected to draw fans from all over the world to the isolated retreat north of Los Angeles.

The memorial event could be an indication that the Jackson family has permanent plans for Neverland.

Some fans say the star should be buried at the ranch and want it to be transformed into a memorial, similar to Elvis Presley's Graceland.

Jackson's family wanted him interred at the Santa Barbara County estate, the site of some of the happiest and saddest times in his life, and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger had agreed to help clear any state bureaucratic hurdles, a source close to the situation told The Times.

But in the end, the source said, county officials could not find a way to quickly circumvent legal restrictions governing burial at a private residence.
