Michael Jackson Tribute in Times Square, 5pm, June 27
"There will be a meet up in Times Square at 5:00 today which is Saturday, June 27th. Where everyone is gonna dance Michael Jackson Thriller. That's 5:00, June 27th. Times Square, New York."
Well... The Twitter "Flash Mob" thriller tribute was 10 people dancing, two dressed like Zombies, and about 200 people taking pictures, including some journalists.... Further evidence that the Twitter phenomenon is more filled with obsevers than participants.
Apparently, one of the hundreds of reporters covering this anemic tribute was Reuters, not surprisingly since the Thriller tribute took place across the street from their headquarters -- See the two photos they posted about the event.

yes, it happened, there were some 15 dancers and about 300 people taking pictures, a serious let down. we tried to get the media to join in on the fun, but they wouldn't. stay up to date with us on twitter: @dumois and @jimaize

Really that's shocking - only 15 fans in NY. Good job MJ didn't live to see his fame shrink to this low ebb. Only a day later and people have moved on.

I did not know about this tribute until now. I love him so much! Just because I don't go to different tributes and vigils doesn't mean that I am not saddened by his. I cannot hear his songs or look at newspapers without crying. Just wanted to tell u that there are fans and people who suffer quietly....

I live in Midtown West and did not know about this event. The entire world is shocked and lost for words for the death of Michael and everyone is suffering so much. The event was just not well-advertised.
