Michael Jackson's Birthday August 29: Commemorations And Events

Today, it was officially ruled that the death of American pop icon Michael Jackson was a homicide. The ruling comes a day before Jackson’s birthday, August 29, which would see him turn 51. Earlier, Michael Jackson’s father Joe Jackson mentioned that the body of his son would finally be buried in a private ceremony on his birthday. However, there are now reports that the Jackson family has rescheduled funeral service for September 3, because some family members did not want to bury the star on his birthday.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29 in Gary, Indiana. He started his career at the age of 5 with Jacksons 5ive, later launching his solo career that made him the most prominent entertainer in decades.

--Michael Jackson birthday benefit concert is set to be held today at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on August 29.

--Michael Jackson's birthday bash will be held in New York. The public celebration will be held in Prospect Park on Saturday and will be free to attend. Thousands of people are expected to show up. The event was organized by director Spike Lee. August 29 will now be the official Michael Jackson Day in Brooklyn.

--American singer and Jackson's friend Madonna will honour Jackson during her Sweet and Sticky tour in Sofia, Bulgaria. Madonna is now on the Eastern European leg of her tour.
