The LA County Coroner has just released Michael Jackson's official cause of death: Acute Propofol intoxication.

Also contributing to his death was the Benzodiazepine effect, which is a group of drugs taken together to reduce anxiety and insomnia. His death is officially ruled a homicide.

According to the coroner's press release:

"The drugs PROPOFOL and LORAZEPAM (Ativan) were found to be the primary drugs responsible for Mr. Jackson's death. Other drugs detected were: Midazolam (Versed), Diazepam (Valium), Lidocaine (topical anesthetic) and Ephedrine.

Propofol is an intravenous drug that is often used as a general anesthestic, and is also used by vets to treat animals. Acute Propofol intoxication means that too much of the drug was administered to Michael Jackson, and that he effectively overdosed, killing him. However, as the drug cannot really be administered to oneself, that is why his death has been ruled a homicide.
