Laytonville, welcome one of the festival favorites, Michael Franti and Spearhead, who will close the show on Sunday night. Michael and the band will also be releasing their new album “All Rebel Rockers” a few days before Earthdance.
Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, with reggae’s most prolific production team, Sly & Robbie (No Doubt, Alicia Keys, Sean Paul, Bob Dylan), this new release deviates from Franti’s previous sound and comprises a hybrid dub-infused soul flavor with some hard-hitting dub rock production. Alongside Dave Shul (guitars), Manas Itiene (drums), Carl Young (bass) and Raliegh Neal (keyboards), the album also features Zap Mama founder Marie Daulne and Jamaican soul/dancehall star Cherine Anderson.
Michael Franti spans the personal and the political with grace, depth, and beauty. If the times have been marked by tension and fear, Franti offers compassion and release. In the nearly two decades that Michael Franti has been composing music, he has grown from a black-booted voice of youthful rage into a barefoot clarion for social justice. Today Michael Franti has never been more relevant and influential with both his music and as an icon for the avocation of peace.
