Michelle Obama at the Oscars and oh no, no pope in office

I Well, Pope Benedict XVI has left and there is no more pope in the Vatican, and the world hasn't collapsed. No person in the world right now is infalliable, that is until the Vatican annouces someone else. By the way, one of the more anti-gay Cardinals, Keith O'Brien of Britain, will not be there. That is because he resigned because of his harassment of young gay men. An anti-gay leader with repressed homosexuality, hey, it's just not an American cleric thing anymore!

II. I didn't want to write about this, but what is with the conservative gnashing of their collective teeth over Michelle Obama at the Oscars giving out the award for Best Picture? Who cares? Yes, it was a gimmick but they are angry that she appeared.

Lefties wouldn't have opposed Laura Bush giving out an Oscar and it would kind of made sense for Nancy Reagen, a former actress, doing so when she was First Lady. The people who watch the Oscars probably leans politically to the left, so most viewers were fine with it. It is only a few rabidly Barack/Michelle Obama haters who are angry about this.

III. Anti-gay fanatic Bryan Fischer states that there is no Constitutional right for gay men or gay women to have sex in the privacy of their homes, though the Supreme Court has ruled otherwise. Someone should tell his fellow anti-gay zealot, Matt Barber that. Barber is a theocrat and he is a big one at that. No, I'm not talking about his views necessary, but that he is one large dude. Sounds like someone missed the part of the bible that lists gluttony as sinful.

IV. Texas Republicans trying to push 10 Commandment displays on those Texans who aren't beholden to the religious right-wing. I mean, if churches and Christian radio and pastors with multi-million dollar churches can't make a person Christian, then the government must step in, right?

After all, we can't ask pastors on television to turn down a Mercedes, which could fund an outreach program, when we can just have the government tell students to believe in this religion. After all, it definately is a function of government to tell people to have no other gods then the ones Texas Republicans believe in. By the way, Texas is a secessionist state and one poll of Republicans I read, 1/2 of them want their state to leave the U.S., this is from a group of people who are constantly telling everyone else how patriotic they are.

V. Lastly, Charles Darwin appears on the back side of the British 10 pound note. While he wasn't an American, can you imagine if he was on the back of an American note? The religious rightwing would be screaming bloody murder. Unfortunately in the U.S., we have a myth on our money, that of course, the so called god that we trust.
