Michigan Says "No Free Babysitting!" to Helpful Mother
Does it get any more absurd than this? Today the AP reports a woman by the name of Lisa Snyder was warned by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to stop running a day care out of her house. Lisa's crime: doing three mothers an enormous favor by watching their kids in her house an hour before they left for school for free.
The law in Michigan states that no one can take care of unrelated children in their home without a license. Maybe there's good policy reasons for such a law; nevertheless, one has to wonder about the discretion used by state authorities.

Most mothers have done this in one form or another. What a ridiculous law!

You are kidding me! It's disturbing in that it's another way of the government entities sticking their nose into the decision making of parents.

Brilliant. We're at it over here in the UK as well. Seriously, everything falls within the legal province of government now it seems.

In other words, babysitting is against the law unless they have a license?
