Microsoft pulls out of Family Guy special
Microsoft pulled out of a Family Guy tie-in for Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show, after finally actually watching an episode and realising that the qualities that make Family Guy popular: (i.e. it's mean and funny) also make it a poor fit for a Microsoft tie-in (i.e. Microsoft is boring and nerdy). Looks as if Microsoft is actively looking to make itself less cool. It's working. However, Microsoft has sunk tons of cash into saturating Fox broadcasts, so you'll see a few Windows advertisements pretty much every time you turn on the television. I haven't tried Windows 7 yet. I'm still frightened like a little kitten alone in a windswept field as hawks, eagles and kestrels swoop from above.
For most of the special, however, MacFarlane and Borstein made typical "Family Guy" style jokes, including riffs on deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and incest.
(How did nobody with Microsoft's PR know about this? Family Guy has been around for years, and has always been the same way, i.e. mean and funny)
They get the worst of all possible outcomes: 1) They paid a lot of money to 2) damage their reputation as the video disaster goes viral, then 3) get none of the benefit of actually advertising during the show.

Well, then they are idiots. I'm a HUGE Family Guy fan, and also a PC user since 1984. Any company that shows up willingly on Family Guy (especially if they are willingly skewered) goes on my "ubercool" list.

Can't believe MS is going to let those apple ads rule them again. I love Family Guy, even though it is sardonic humor. Oh, and I'm a PC ;)
