Michigan's top lawman Mike Cox blasted one of his Asst. A.G's Andrew Shirvell for his anti-gay blog Chris Armstrong Watch.
Andrew Shirvell a University of Michigan Alumnus has been coming under fire for Chris Armstrong Watch - a blog filled with viscous attacks against the openly gay President of the University of Michigan's Student Assembly, Chris Armstrong.
Now, Shirvell's boss, Mike Cox is speaking out.
Attorney General Mike Cox says in a statement this week that Shirvell's "immaturity and lack of judgment outside the office is clear."
No disciplinary action has been taken. Cox says state employees have a right to free speech outside working hours.
Andrew Shirvell's first entry on Chris Armstrong Watch reads,
Welcome to "Chris Armstrong Watch." This is a site for concerned University of Michigan alumni, students, and others who oppose the recent election of Chris Armstrong - a RADICAL HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVIST, RACIST, ELITIST, & LIAR - as the new head of student government.
The posts continue in similar vein and Andrew Shirvell has even taken to protesting outside Chris Armstrongs home for promoting his "radical homosexual agenda" at the University of Michigan.
Andrew Shirvell also accuses Chris Armstrong of being a racist for joining an alleged secret society on the University of Michigan called the Order of Angell.
The Order of Angell has been from time-to-time a secret society on the University of Michigan's campus but it also helped finance the Michigan Union building. The charges of racism stem from an old discontinued practice where the Order used indigenous peace pipes in its ceremonies - a form of cultural appropriation that was discontinued in 1972.

It has been proven time and again that those who speak out the loudest and most cynically against homosexuality are harboring those feelings inside themselves. These are closet case gays who are not out to themselves in their own mind so they pick a target to vent out their rage and not being able to come out and live their lives openly and honestly as a gay man.Shrivel looks, physically to be struggling with this dilemma and he did on camera exhibit feminine qualities in his speech and mannerisms last night on CNN. This man needs some therapy to get real inside himself, he is a latent homosexual himself.

The 'homophobes are really closet homosexuals' is kind of an urban myth.
It does happen but only in a tiny minority of cases.
Not that I am defending his actions of course, I find them repellant.
But 'common-sense psychology' is a pet-hate of mine.

I don't think this is an example of pet psychology as it is common sense used to diffuse a man's anger and to redirect his vitriol back at him. The man is a closeted self-loathing homosexual. Heterosexual men don't sit around thinking about how gay men are having sex with each other and then take that as a rallying cry to down someone. If a heterosexual man often ponders homosexuality and its acts, then he is not terribly heterosexual. I'm one of those people who refuses to bow down to bigotry and if the only way to get the bigot to shut up is to label him as what he hates then so be it.

For a start I never used the term 'pet psychology'. And 'common sense' is not really a valid source of knowledge when applied to psychology. I agree completely that he is an intolerant bigot, as I previously stated I am in no way defending his actions.
I was also mildly disturbed by your line "and if the only way to get the bigot to shut up is to label him as what he hates then so be it.". Are you implying that if someone is acting in a way you dislike, then its acceptable to use any means at all to get them to behave differently?

As a former UofM student, there are quite a few inaccuracies cited here, including that the Order of Angell's racist practices were discontinued in 1972. In fact, they were discontinued around 2000, only after local Native American groups as well as minority groups on campus stormed their meeting room. Anderson Cooper as well as yourself dismiss these accusations, but they were significant enough for Al Sharpton to come to campus to speak against the Order of Angell. Look it up. Even if you don't agree with Sharpton, his high profile should tell you that there is more going on here than is reported on. Also, for the claims that Andrew is a closet homosexual, first it is not clear why you think that is an insult, and second, there is no basis for that or frankly name-calling. Stick to the issues.

If a protest needs to happen it's outside the AG's office up there. Talk about waste of taxpayer's money! He is in a position that poses great danger to the citizens of Michigan, yet this is obviously OK, and perhaps business as usual in the Michigan attorney general's office. Andrew Shirvell should be looked at by law enforcement for his off duty activities, stalking and harrassment, and His boss, Mike Cox must be fired for unleashing this pervert on the people of michigan! Impeach Mike Cox for criminal negligence in office by allowing his assistant attorney generals to harass and stalk honest, law abiding citizens. This is what sick right wing ideology does when it assumes power.

i have sent letters of complaint to cox. i sent a letter to the twerp and told him to resign. they are trying to set up a case using shirvell to challenge hate crime laws protecting gays. this jerk should not be being paid by the taxpaers of michigan.

Okay, so Andy boy here is obviously intolerant, staulkerish, and extremely anti-gay. He has his little toadies to help him out with the interviews, as well as the sweet little Micky Cox. The title at the top of this page is a flat out lie, Michigan AG, Mike Cox is a fellow gay bashing bigot who approved of Shrivell shit right up until it made national news. The state of Michigan is going to hell in a hand basket. How did the citizens of Michigan revert to such a moronic level as to allow to Nazi's like Cox and his ankle grabbing side kick, Shrivell get into and then stay in office after this kind of disgrace?Michigan has one more nail in its economic coffin. Cox and Shrivell are most likely both closeted homosexuals. Cox is the true bad guy here, he is the one who has allowed this to go on, he has excused it, he has protected it. Shirvell is sick and extremely dangerous. I fear for Chris Armstrong and hopefully he will get a restraining order ASAP. Mr. Shirvell needs help immediately. I too think he is jealous of Mr. Armstrong. I also agree that the AG should be fired. This is not a matter of free speach but rather a matter of a stalker in the AG's office.
