More artists participating in ArtWalk, Squamish, BC by Cinci Csere

Here are more of the 32 artists who will be participating during ArtWalk the annual self-guided studio and gallery tour. Over 2,000 people are expected to turn out for this two day event spread over 20 venues, all hosted by VISUALS, the Squamish Valley Artists Society. From world reknown potters and sculptors to emerging artists, we guarantee you'll be inspired.

Thor Froslev, recognized in the community for his work with eagles, the environment and both performing and visual artists in his Brackendale Art Gallery, is also the creator of the Bells of Brackendale. These steel bells vary in size, each ringing with a beautiful and unique tone. The bells incorporate recycled materials and each has its own decorative top and ringer. Thor has been making bells for over 15 years and his Bells of Brackendale can be seen and heard in Australia, Denmark, Hawaii as well as many other parts of the world. Thor, along with two other artists, will have his work featured in the Brackendale Art Gallery during ArtWalk weekend.

Cindy Cardiff, of Trek Photography, specializes in event and lifestyle photography, as well as landscape, wildlife and outdoor portraits. She was inspired into this hobby, and then profession, by the many incredible images she sees around her, just waiting to be captured on camera. "I love how we all see things differently and enjoy the opportunity photography gives me to show others how I view the world." Cindy will be displaying some of her photographs for ArtWalk at Global Inkstorm, 2 blocks behind Tim Horton’s, on Production Way. Her show, called “Take a Walk on the Wild Side” will include photography of both wildlife and scenery from Canada and Africa, as well as a slide show of some of the incredible and wild events she’s covered here in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

Kim Smerek, a multi-talented artist and busy mom, moved to Squamish over a year ago from the U.S. She was attracted by the large artist community and friendly small town feel. Whether it's her paintings, wood blocks, children's story books or toys, her work reflects her sense of childlike wonder. Children and nature are her source of inspiration. Kim's work has been shown in the U.S., Canada and overseas. She looks forward to meeting visitors at the Squamish Adventure Centre where her work will be on display and for sale.

Cathy Roddie, recent winner of the Plein Air painting contest at the Harmony Arts Festival in West Vancouver, will have her work on display at the Galileo Coffee Company in Britannia. Cathy is a long time watercolourist and acrylic painter. For the last three years, she has become passionate about painting in the great outdoors. This year, outfitted with a waterproof shelter and an electric tricycle, she rides to local parks for painting excursions en plein air with fellow artists or on her own. Cathy is essentially self-taught and her creative pursuits have included cold casting, floral arrangements, knitting and of course painting. Local landscapes and pet portraits are her favorite subject matter.

Stop by any of the ArtWalk locations to pick up your ArtWalk Guide & Map, or get your copy from the Chief or Sea to Sky Newspaper this weekend (Sept 11/12 issues). In addition to great art to view and purchase, demos and refreshments, there's a Key to Art Quest where you can get artists to sign your key and be entered to win art prizes. Also buy a ticket for the annual fundraiser prize draw if you'd like to win the valuable oil painting by Linda Wagner, AFCA, on display at the Squamish Adventure Centre. With 32 artists in twenty venues, you're sure to have a great time and be amazed at the talent in our own back yard. Sept 20 and 21, 11 am - 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday.
