More to Love Episode 4: Good Wife, Bad Wife
Do any of you watch More to Love? Episode 4 was on last night. I didn't think More to Love was real until I flicked past it last night while looking for something decent to watch. Basically, we're talking about a version of The Bachelor, but with contestants who are overweight. Each time I think we've reached the apotheosis of reality TV, I'm proven completely wrong. It's getting quite sad.
So I managed to watch about eleven and half seconds of More to Love before I had to either switch channels or throw the television out the window and into the street below. Since I didn't want to hurt any innocent pedestrians, I chose option A. Fortunately, TWoP has my back, as you'll see below, but still: this is definitely the most exploitative reality show I've yet seen, since it exploits two separate audiences: the single and lonely, and those who are self-conscious about their weight. There's overlap between the two groups, but not total overlap, and therein lies the marketing genius. I think it's horrible, though. Needless to say, I'm not in on shows like Biggest Loser, either, which are really just humiliation-porn disguised as self-help.
So, the More to Love Episode 4 recap:
Short version: Lonely people humiliating themselves on TV for a fleeting taste of fame
Long version: see below.
Luke is in his manly bachelor pad pool house, where he decides that his own man's opinion about the girls isn't enough, and he wants a woman's perspective, too. So he asked Emme to help him out. No, not to give him her opinions on the ladies -- which is a shame because it would have been funny and given her something to do besides appear in the hallway, say three words, and then vanish for a half hour -- but to round up the girls for a "special event." Yeah, I'm sure Luke thought of this all on his own. I'd like to see him actually ask Emme to do something for him and see how that went over. Emme tells the girls that Luke wants to know who would make a good wife for him and who would make a bad one.
