Mortal Kombat went to a new home on July 10, 2009 when Midway Games was bought by Warner Bros for $33 million. Now, the new owners are set to relaunch the franchise's movie series.

According to movie website, Bloody-Gusting, the studio is in talks with screenwriter Oren Uziel, a newcomer with a lot of buzz as a result of a screenplay he wrote titled Shimmer Lake, to pen the script. The previous two installments were made by New Line Cinema whose parent company is Warner Bros.

The original, from 1995, was the first successful movie based on a video game. It's also one of the few. So, the studio hopes to repeat that success.
