Most Americans want to legalize marijuana and anti-gay lawsuit in
According to a recent poll, 58% of Americans now support the legalization of marijuana. No, that's not medical marijuana, but marijuana for recreational purposes.
So why do we continue a war on marijuana that sees people caught with a joint in states like Oklahoma, facing felony charges if within a 1000 feet of a school, college, park or housing complex, even if one doesn't know they are there?
In cities like Oklahoma City or Tulsa, it is probably be impossible to be anywhere not within 1000 feet of one of these places. In fact, there are no exceptions even if you are in your own home. Laws like this aren't just dumb, they are at a level of absurdity and injustice that Kafka couldn't have anticipated.
So if you are a potential juror, remember your right to engage in jury nullification, or not to convict someone under an unjust law. By the way, Seth Rogen before he became famous stated it took two cops an hour to write a summons for him for marijuana possession. Yes, great use of police resources. Thankfully all real crime has been solved.
By the way, if you want to support marijuana legalization in the U.S., and your own state, please think about joining the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws or the Marijuana Policy Project.
On a different topic, the anti-gay Christian right-wing is suing to strip away the Domestic Partnership registry for gay and lesbian couples in Wisconsin. They say it is too similar to marriage, which is unfortunately banned for gay couples in Wisconsin.
They do have a point, it is awful public policy to ensure that a gay man or woman should be able to see the person they love who is sick and dying in a hospital. That is something we really need to stamp out, for family values sake.
Finally, if you want to support marriage equality, and basic human decency, please think about supporting the Human Rights Campaign, which does great work fighting for gay rights and equality. Thanks.
