Now that Tweets have made their way to the Twitterverse all the way from outer space, it's hard to come up with fancy ways to update your microblog...unless you're an astronaut or a mountaineer ascending the sheer slopes of the world's highest peak.

Not one, but two illustrious members of the Twitterati are tweeting live updates as they make they ascent to the top of Mount Everest.

Just hours ago, astronaut Scott Parazynski (aka @SPOTScott) and his Sherpa Danuru reached the summit of Mt. Everest at 6:15 pm EDT - 4 am Nepal time.

Scott Parazynski and his Sherpa Danuru are standing on the summit of Mt. Everest as of 6:15 pm EDT - 4 am Nepal time

Scott was at the south summit 8,750 m (28,700 ft) of Mt Everest at 2:35 am local time. Main summit is at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft).

8:26 pm Nepal time: Scott has just departed Camp IV and is headed for the summit of Mt. Everest ETA 5 am Nepal time/7 pm EDT - perhaps earlier.

Scott is using his SPOT Satellite Personal Tracker to check in. You can follow his progress all the way to the summit by checking his personal tracking page . Select "terrain" to see how close he is getting to the summit of Mt. Everest.

But not to be outdone by Parazynski's intrepid climb, mountaineer Gavin Bate (aka @gavinbate) is also making the vertical march toward Everest's peak — and he's  chronicling his adventures on Twitter and on the My Everest Challenge website.

Here's his latest update from C2:

After +20hrs climbing Gavin is asleep in C2. Why does he put himself through this? http://short.ie/psr36p

Do you think they're @ replying each other right now? Maybe they could have an Everest summit tweetup?
