The Movie Australia should be called "Gone With The 'Billabong'
TALK ABOUT ACTING. AT&T's latest acting try -- (cutting 12,000 jobs) that is about 4% of its work force, will not win them any Oscars. This gigantic monopoly owns just about everything. Naturally they would own it all, afterall they are based in Dallas. In the meantime, they continue to nickel and dime us to death. But, you can talk all you want, even if they are listening in, to pick up more acting tips.
ACTOR MARK RUFFALO'S brother was shot in the head and died in Beverly Hills. Very little details have come out on this story. Anyone have anything to add to the mystery. Three Dots...ANNE HECHE is expecting a child with actor (beau) James Tupper. Remember, she was an item for a long time with a famous female companion -- then got married to a man, who she had a child with. Meanwhile, Celebs say that her career is not exactly making headlines.
FROM IDOL TO ANGEL! Did you like Taylor Hicks the Idol Winner? Well, if you did here is your chance to see him in the always fun "Grease"as Teen Angel. Where? At the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco starting of March 9, 2009. This is a brand new production. You'll remember hits like "Sandy", "Summer Nights" and other timeless hits. Hicks was not really a favorite of mine on Idol, but I'm still going to see him in this production. Who knows, he may win me over. THANKS TO: SF BLUES, WHO CHECKED IN WITH THIS: "Taylor Hicks is marvelous in the role of Teen Angel. You'll have a great time at the show. The man is a great entertainer!"
THE WORST AND BEST MAYOR OF SF -- TALKS A LOT ON YOU TUBE SF Mayor goes on "The Tube". Booooring! Hey, Mr. Mayor. A seven hour speech on You Tube? How many people did you put to sleep? Try this instead. Since you claim that the City is so broke, why not cut out all those committees that decide what's best for the City. Isn't that what the Supervisors are elected to do? Don't be a Dim Bulb. Save bucks and be a hero. LEE'S MICRO REVIEWS AUSTRALIA -- AUSTRALIA SEES GAIN ON U.S AUTO RESCUE PLAN. Ooops...wrong headline. Australia the movie takes place in the mid 40's. But nothing much has changed over the decades. There was war then and their is war now. Baz Luhrmann who brought to the screen the absolutely marvelous "La Boheme" starring Nicole Kidman, brought audiences to their feet. His new Movie about Australia's outback is interesting, but way too long. It's seems even longer than "Gone With The Wind". And that's why I'm calling "Gone with the Billabong.: Yes, the Pix is gorgeous, but so are documentaries with fly over views of landscapes. But, it is saved by Top Drawer acting Kidman and Huigh Jackman. Yep, although long -- I would recommend this emotional and heartfelt tale, even though it is not the Triumph that Luhrmann would have liked -- it is unforgettable. My advice is to shave off about 20 minutes or so. The boy who plays an Orphan Aborigine, is remarkable.
LEE'S RATING: THREE BOXES OF POPCORN. (TRADEMARKED) Don't even think of trying to steal it! Three is not bad. Four would be best -- so Baz. Just trim it a little and it might be just perfect.
CADILLAC RECORDS features the music of Muddy Water, Etta James and Chuck Berry. This is the story of the Cadillac Record Company. They were the first to feature 'Black' artists on a record label. It's a Rags to Riches tale. Take your pick. Which do you want? Well, for me it's the music that is rich. The story is a little too pat, even though it is based on fact. They looked through those Hollywood Rose Colored classes on this one. See it for the music. RATING; THREE GLASSES OF CHAMPAGNE!!! -trademarked- (Lee Hartgrave has contributed to the San Francisco Sunday Datebook section and produced a long-running PBS KQED Arts segment.)
