Munna Bhai wins again: India's National Awards running late by 2 years by Richard Drewmore

How slow is the government of India is reflected in the announcement of the 54th National Film Awards for 2006 today, June 10, 2008! Bizarre! The govt of India train is actually running late by two years. Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ has bagged the maximum number of four awards. Madhur Bhandarkar is the best director for ‘Traffic Signal' and 'Khosla ka Ghosla' is the best Hindi film. Best actor award went to Soumitra Chatterjee and best actress was Priya Mani.

The Jury for 54th National Film Awards, K. Bikram Singh submitting his report for the National Film Awards, 2006 to the Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, in New Delhi on June 10, 2008 The three juries, including Buddhadeb Dasgupta, K Bikram Singh and Ms Madhu Jain, for the awards submitted their recommendations to Minister of Information & Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi.

The awards for 2007 will be announced later as the whole process has been disturbed due to the long delay in the announcement of 2005 awards, which was done last year. The delay was caused by the court orders for stay obtained by some filmmakers who had challenged the criteria for inclusion of films for consideration of awards.
